We are one of the only schools in the South Bay to offer education to students holding an I-20 student visa. Please call our office for further information on enrollment requirements and tuition fees.
We are taking applications for I-20 students for the 2020-2021 school year. Please contact Francey Marzicola, Director of Development at firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
South Bay Junior Academy extends admission to qualified students with I-20 student visas. All I-20 students are required to enroll in our English as a Second Language class. ELD (English Language Developer) Students Grades 6, 7, and 8th.
All students entering SBJA on an I-20 visa must attend an orientation before attending class, even if the student enrolls after the school year begins. During this orientation, academic and handbook expectations will be explained in their language. Prior to enrollment, all students will be tested for Reading, Language, and Math skills. If students test at the Advanced ELD level for Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, then they will be placed in the regular classroom with the same expectations as English speaking students. However, if they test lower, they will be given grades based on the ELD Standards of Beginner, Early Intermediate, Intermediate, Early Advanced, or Advanced according to their performance in the above categories for the content classes. A student may progress as quickly as possible through these levels, with their performance being tested every grading period (mid-quarter or interim, and end of the quarter) until he/she reaches the Advanced Level.
The detailed list of standards will be followed for student placement.
We also offer a two to four-week study program for international students during their winter break season.
Please note: For the 2020-2021 school year, all students coming from foreign countries must arrive in the United States two-weeks prior to attending classes and must receive a doctor’s note of health before beginning school.
